ELE-FACTS ....... have a heart

Sharing interesting facts that help us understand these magnificent creatures and the way they behave. As humans our hearts beat about 70 times per minute.   A mouse heartbeat is about 500 times per minute.   Elephants have a heart beat of 28 times per minute. Elephants have the biggest brain of any mammal.  Their brains are small when they are born, but as they grow and learn the size of their brains increase.   This makes them highly intelligent and very sociable creatures.   They even recognise their own reflection in a mirror. ELEPHANT'S TEETH

The teeth of the elephant are always difficult to see.   Their teeth grow from back to front.  Six teeth in the top jaw and six in the bottom jaw. Two teeth from each jaw are used at a time.  Once these are worn down, they move forward and fall out.  The root is absorbed in the jaw.   This is a painful process and might contribute to their mood.   In an attempt to ease the pain they chew branches and bite rocks.  The chewing is done in a backwards and forwards motion, not side to side like cows or humans. Are Elephant Hair Bracelets Legal

You are allowed to have an elephant hair bracelet in any country provided that it is purchased from a licensed trader.   In August 2016, CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) passed a law prohibiting trade in elephant hair. Retailers still in possession of elephant hair and in possession of a wildlife traders license (allowing them to sell elephant hair jewelry) are allowed to sell their products until such time as their stocks run out.
